My name is Kristie Melnik. I am the President of Cytolutions, LLC and cofounder of 'Not My Own' a fragrance which benefits cancer patients through The Stefanie Spielman Foundation. Cytolutions is a biotech services company, focusing on rare cell detection using fluorescence and magnetic techniques. My educational background is in Microbiology and I have spent most of my career in medical device development and nanotechnology designed for earlier detection of cancerous diseases, as well as therapeutic alternatives for those in late stage disease progression. The fragrance development arose from a different side of being involved in cancer research. Stefanie Spielman who lost her life to breast cancer in 2009, was a champion to those in her community - my community, and her loss was palpable. For so long I've been focused on the science of explaining and diagnosing cancer - while an immediate need for current breast cancer patients existed. Stefanie's death prompted 'Not My Own's creation, and the proceeds go to the Spielman Foundation specifically to cover the medical expenses for those patients that are in need. Developing a product that benefits current cancer patients seemed to be the altruistic way to pay it forward, in addition to all the scientific research I continue to perform.
